Bronchos Sweep the Warriors

The University of Central Oklahoma Hockey Team returned home this weekend after a three game stint in Colorado last weekend to host Midland University. The Bronchos looked to tighten up their game against the Warriors and took it to the visiting team Friday evening.

Ryan Donovan for the Warriors would strike first for Midland midway in the first period. But defenseman JC Dubecky would answer back for the Bronchos just over a minute later to tie up the contest. Zach Guerra would put UCO ahead late in the 1st heading into the first intermission. Jordan Sgro would find himself on a breakaway against the Midland goaltender and slip it past Ondrej Patha to extend the lead 3-1. Forward Kaeden Meuer found the back of the net two minutes later to add to the Bronchos total for the evening, but, Donovan would answer for the last time for the Warriors midway through the second period. Vitali Mikhailov and JC Dubecky would add to the total making the score 6-2 leading to the final period. The third period was a defensive battle for both teams in which neither team would score, giving the victory to the Bronchos 6-2 for the evening.

Saturday evening was Greek Night and the crowd did not disappoint cheering the team on to another win. The first period was another defensive battle for both teams as neither team would get a tally in the first period. Jordan Sgro would get the party started in the second for his second unassisted goal for the weekend to put UCO on top early as Meuer would extend the Broncho lead. Warrior forward, Logan Wotton would put Midland on the board cutting the deficit in half before Leeam Tivers would tuck in the puck late in the period leaving the score 3-1 headed into the final period of the weekend. Midland would not go away quietly. Wotton would add another notch for the Warriors before the team would pull their goalie. Midland would find the twine again as Fletcher Chun would place the Warriors within 1 goal of the Bronchos. But UCO would hold on to the lead as the final buzzer sounded, leading to the sweep for the weekend, 4-3.

The Bronchos have a week of from games next week before heading back out on the road to play Alabama University in Pelham, Alabama October 21 & 22.
