Bronchos Sweep Red Raiders
By Rocky Wiles
The University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos got their season on track with a pair of dominating victories over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 5-0 and 9-3.
In a complete turn of fortune, the Bronchos found the net 14 times over the weekend, while shutting down the potent Tech offense.
In Friday nights game, Justin Sgro recorded his second shutout this season, while AJ Alfrey paced the sudden offense resurgence with his second hat trick of the season. It was Jason Thibodeau’s turn on Saturday, as Jason recorded his first hat trick for UCO. “AJ and Jason had outstanding games this weekend, they were focused from the drop of the puck Friday night til the final horn sounded on Saturday night”, said head coach, Craig McAlister.
The Bronchos never trailed in either game, but Saturday nights game the Bronchos showed that this was their weekend and scored within 40 seconds of the drop of the puck, with a goal by Ray Wingfield. That goal was followed by a goal by Matt Cohn who scored 23 seconds later. From that point on UCO never looked back and apply pressure in Tech’s zone all night long. “I’m proud of our team, we battled through some tough bumps in the road and have now righted the ship and are ready for the challenges ahead, said Assistant coach, Farley Duvall.
Once again the Bronchos are on the road, as they travel to Michigan to take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Eastern Michigan University and Adrian College in three consecutive nights this weekend. The broadcast can be caught by logging onto UCOHOCKEY.com.
