Friday September 29—
UCO hosted Missouri State for its first ever home series on September 29th & 30th. Rob Mattison made the start in the net for the Friday night game. It only took 5:05 for Mike Haszto to score the first goal in UCO hockey history. On one of many power-plays throughout the night, on a pass from AJ Alfrey, Haszto let a slapshot go from the top of the circle that went off the goalie’s glove and in to give the Bronchos a 1-0 lead. Once again on a UCO power-play, Erik Jansen took a Brian Thompson pass down the boards on a breakaway sniping the far-side corner of the goal to give UCO a 2-0 lead going in to the 2nd period.
With no goals in the 2nd, the score still stood at 2-0 going in to the third until Brian Thompson banked one in off the Missouri State goalie 3:53 into the 3rd period to make the score 3-0. With 12:01 remaining in the game, Broncho captain AJ Alfrey scored the 4th and final goal of the night assisted by defenseman Joel Hornung and line-mate Brent Block on the power play. With 8:54 left on the clock. Mattison’s shutout bid was ended as Missouri State finally scored by finishing a cross-ice pass just inside the post.
The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Bronchos givng UCO it’s first win it’s inaugural contest. |
