Monday Oct. 23rd —
Going into week four, the Bronchos have had a much better season than their 2-4 record reflects. After defeating the Bears of Missouri State in an impressive inaugural Broncho Hockey weekend, UCO took two very close and tough losses at #5 Iowa State. The first of which in that series was decided in a thriller in overtime. After that it was on to #3 Illinois. The Fighting Illini were probably a little surprised when the Bronchos came to town. After a hard fought series against the University of Illinois, UCO remains winless on the road losing both games in Champaign, Illinois.
Coming back home to Edmond, the Bronchos regained their winning ways as the Colorado State Rams came to town. In the opening period on Friday night the Bronchos didn’t come out to the start the coaching staff was expecting. After the first period the Rams took an early 1-0 lead. Coach McAlister did a good job rallying the troops in between periods, as the Bronchos scored 3 unanswered goals. The Rams tacked on one more to end the second period trailing the Bronchos 3-2. The Bronchos would take over in the third, scoring two more times. The Bronchos won their first game in two weeks with a final score 5-2. In Saturday night’s game it was more of the same as the Rams took a 1-0 lead going into the second period. The Bronchos came out on fire in the second, scoring two early goals and one later in the period. There would be no goals for either side in the third.
With the sweep of the Rams, UCO moves back to .500 on the season with a record of 4-3-1. Join the Bronchos at Arctic Edge Ice Arena Sunday, October 29, 2006. Face-off is set for 2pm as UCO takes on the Sun Devils of Arizona State. |
